Driving isn't a right, it's a privilege. If you have a teenager in the household eager to drive, you should stress the requirements he will have to meet first. Once the young person reaches sixteen, he or she will be permitted to drive alone without restriction as to location. They can only drive between the hours of five in the morning and nine at night. Only one passenger under the age of eighteen, who is not an immediate family member, is permitted to be in a vehicle with the sixteen year old driver.

Teens are not permitted to use cell phones or any kind while they are driving. No one in Kansas is allowed to text or email while driving. At the age of sixteen and a half, teenagers may apply for full licenses. They must have met all the requirements and not be cited for any infractions in the previous six months.

One of the requirements is proof of at least fifty hours of driving under supervision. Ten of those hours must be done at night. After they receive their full licenses, the previous restrictions are no longer applicable.

Kids in farming families, and those that work for them, may apply for permits to drive as soon as they are fourteen. They are permitted to travel wherever it's necessary as long as the trip is related to some farming activity. To get a farm permit, teenagers must complete the application, pass an eye test, and answer a certain percentage of the question on a written test correctly. A farm in Kansas is defined as a property having 20 acres of land or more.
