Facts Regarding Cavalier King Puppies

Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are toy dogs according to KCA classification. United Kingdom is the origin of the dog and it has become very popular in most countries. The popularity in the US has grown very fast since 2000. It currently ranks at the 18th position of the most popular dogs in the US. Cavalier King puppies are the best choice for someone who is considering o purchase a dog.

From history, these dogs were lap dogs and tinier for spaniels. Their sizes when full grown was smaller for spaniel breeds. The height of a standard full-grown one is supposed to be 12-13 inches. The weight range lies between 10-18 pounds for mature adults. The coat grows to a moderate height whereas the appearance is silky. Coats are allowed to have a little wave, but they should not be curly. No docking is done to the tail.

Cavalier Kings have feathering on the legs, feet, ears, and tails when they become adults. Feathering on the feet is a very vital feature of the breed. English Toy Spaniels are usually confused with these dogs because they have several features in common. They also share a common origin, with the two breeds diverging from each other about 100 years ago. The major difference lies in the weight and facial features.

There are four recognized colors of this breed. The first color is comprised of a white body with rich chestnut markings. This variety of the dog is known as the Blenheim, named after Blenheim Palace. The second color variant is comprised of a chestnut spot in the middle of the forehead. The spot is referred to as the Blenheim spot, after an ancient legend.

The third color is made of tan and black. The rest of the coat is black but has tan highlights on the legs, tails, eyebrows, and cheeks. When the dog is tan and black in color, it is called King Charles. The fourth coat color is tricolor. The body is colored black and white, but there are tan markings on inner legs, cheeks, ears, tail, and eyebrows. This color is referred to as Prince Charles.

The breed usually tries hard to make its owned happy. It is also playful, affectionate, and patient. These qualities are good for a family dog. They socialize well with other breeds, children, and pets. They are great at adapting to new locations, environments, and families. People raise them in country settings as well as cities.

The breed ranks 44th in the list of intelligent dogs. They learn fast and are good at working and obedience training. They are active in sports too. They have always been successful in obedience, conformation shows, and agility. Their gentleness and sweet nature makes them good as therapy dogs. They are very comfortable with long walks and are happy to sleep on the couch.

Cavalier King like chasing after moving objects, including vehicles. This makes them not very wise in the streets when not under supervision. They also become friends with anybody, including strangers. Thus they are poor as guard dogs. However, they are a threat to birds and small pets because of their strong hunting instincts.
