If ever you have some plans of buying a dog, having the Newfoundland breed could be one of the best choices you can have. The breed requires a fair work but its characteristics would include both a loyal companion and a devoted one. So if you consider to have one, make sure to know the proper steps of raising it.

After bringing the puppy or dog at home, feed him immediately. However, you need to make sure you are serving him food the same as what is being served to him at the place of the breeder selling Newfoundland dogs for sale. In this, you can ensure that you are minimizing some digestive upsets. Most breeders have been recommending specific foods for the puppies.

Housebreak your Newfoundland puppy. You cannot avoid some possible accidents to happen. Such as the 25 pound puppy could possibly leave some large messes at home. So while being still a puppy, provide him already with a crate large enough to fit him when he becomes adult. The crate must be made comfortably and naturally for him.

Socialize the puppy through taking him for walks with you. The Newfies are known for their sweet characteristics. But in some situations, some strange animals or people may possibly frighten them or upset them. And for this reason, it is really much better to take them outside most of the time and let them get used to the outside world.

Through this, for sure, they are not going to resist anymore if ever you want them to be taken in trips like interacting with the other animals, meeting strangers, or going to a veterinarian. To take them out will serve as their experience of meeting different situations and people. Thus, you make become more sociable, accept, and as well as tolerate various situations, animals, or people.

Enrolling them to training classes is recommended as early as possible for preventing them to become uncontrollable when they grow up. Avoid on waiting for a veterinarian to signal of when they need to be socialized and avoid diseases risks. Newfies are known as happy, intelligent, and willing workers. For this reason, they will most likely enjoy the training sessions with professional trainers or with you.

Grooming. A regular and a thorough grooming would be very essential in order to prevent matting and to keep the coats in a good condition. Thus, it is very important for you to spare a time to devote in grooming. To bath the Newfoundland can be one of the major undertakings and this must be done more often. A blaster is an equipment essential for this.

Being prepared for its drool. When you do hate drool or slobber and find it disgusting, then probably, these types of dogs are not the best for you. Newfoundlands are known to drool and slobber especially after they eat or drink. When shaking their heads, literally, you will be toweling a saliva that would slime off your clothes. And thus, having a slobber cloth would be needed.

Spending much time with them. These breeds are being considered as devoted dogs. This characteristic of them has been viewed as a great attraction. Being with their owners always is what they want, unlike the other breeds who would be fine when left for long. And thus, to own them while you work all day may not be recommended.
