The Role Of NAACP Willow Run

National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is an organization, which was formed in 1909. It was formed by Moorfield Storey, W. E. B. Du Bois and Mary White Ovington to fight for civil rights of African American citizens. It was also intended to ensure every American citizen regardless of his or her color enjoys economic, political, educational and social equality. First national office of this organization was established in 1910 within New York City. NAACP Willow Run branch works hard to ensure racial prejudices are eliminated.

The founders of the organization were optimistic that their ambitions would be accomplished after a short time. However, target of founders has not been achieved. This body, had ambition of protecting and fighting for the rights of African Americans and also eliminating discrimination that is race-based. In the twentieth century, the body expanded and commenced minding rights of foreign black refugees.

NAACP had objective of using democratic process to eliminate barriers of racial prejudices. It had the duty of enhancing enforcement of federal, local and state laws that ensure civil rights of all citizens are secure. Another objective of this organization was to educate people on negative effects of racial-based discrimination. These were actually efforts of the body to make sure these evil acts come to an end. It also realized that, it was beneficial to let citizens know their rights as outlined within the constitution.

NAACP has its headquarters in Baltimore, Maryland. In every year, this organization rewards African Americans, who perform well in various categories. Image Award is given to African American, who performs excellently in the entertainment industry. On the other hand, an outstanding performer in any other specialty is rewarded with Spingarn medals.

Michigan, Texas, New York, Maryland and California are some of cities in which regional offices of National Association for the Advancement of Colored People are located. These offices have the responsibility of planning for state conferences. A board that administers NAACP has sixty four members. It is usually headed by a chairperson. Both the president and chief executive of NAACP are elected by members of the board.

NAACP has departments, which perform various functions so as to ensure organization achieves its ambitions. Legal department deals with court cases especially those concerning discrimination in employment places, education and in government. Education department works hard to make sure public education is improved at federal, state and local levels. On the other hand, health division focuses on advancing health care for less privileged people.

The organization has been working extremely hard to achieve the goals and targets that founders of organization had set. Although these goals have not been achieved yet, the organization is on the right track. Organization enhances the passage of anti-lynching laws. It also plays an essential role in protection of African Americans rights.

The body has been and continues to address social and also racial injustices committed to minorities who are mainly African Americans. Furthermore, this nonprofit organization has played an essential role of meeting socioeconomic and cultural needs of underrepresented and disadvantaged African Americans. It has put appropriate strategies in place to make sure rights of its constituents are defended.
